Southside Back to the Beach with Vans — Galveston Went Off

Saturday, October 3rd, Southside Skatepark headed down to Galveston for Southside Back to the Beach with Vans, and despite a week of high rain percentages and remnants of the storm Polo making its way across Texas, we ended up with an incredible afternoon of skateboarding on the Gulf Coast.
The day started with a few drops and a wet setup, but things quickly cleared up. Cooler temperatures around 83°, cloud cover, and a little patience gave us a nearly perfect afternoon at the beach. And once things dried out, the skating got going. We has some stand out moments from skateboarders like Damien Olivo, Max Peterson, Lucas Daley, David Langston, Eddie Middleton, Scott Alexander, Timothy Morales, Brody Arledge, Frankie Gamboa, Pedro Navarro, Dylan Doughty and many more...
The afternoon featured a Barrier Jam, 37' Long Flatbar Jam, Wedge to Ledge, and $2,000 in Cash for Tricks. The crew brought plenty of energy, and the rain-or-shine crowd that made the trip to Galveston helped make the day what it was.
We also threw in a surprise Wedge-to-Wedge challenge, with the goal of seeing how far someone could ollie between the wedges. The longest distance of the day came in at an impressive 17 feet.
A huge thank you to The City of Galveston, the Galveston Parks Board, and everyone who came out, skated, watched, filmed, took photos, and supported the event. And a BIG shout-out to Vans Skateboarding for making Southside Back to the Beach happen.
